While the total bet laid on Kentucky Derby a few years ago was $187 million, the Super Bowl of Las Vegas of 2014 had a record betting amount of $119 million.
Top bets likely on boxing match
According to the sports channel ESPN, the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao which will be held at MGM Grand Las Vegas will see bets above $30 million or more. The match has gained in popularity as top celebrities like Rappers Diddy and 50 Cent are betting several million dollars on both boxers to win the challenge. The fight has already collected around $13.2 million on endorsements alone, breaking previous records. Around 300,000 fans are expected to visit Vegas to participate in the event.
Excitement for the Kentucky Derby
The 20-horse Kentucky Derby is a much awaited annual horse racing event that has an elite crowd gathered to cheer the players and horses. Breeders and trainers show their prowess by racing their best thoroughbreds at this event which is considered the most premier horse racing event in the nation. The average ticket price for this year’s Derby is $1028.74 though last year it was $ 621.57. Even the hotel rooms in Louisville are increasing prices by five times this year. Since the Kentucky Derby has always been won by underdogs, instead of popular favourites, it remains to be seen which pair of horse and jockey will win the race.
